Angels Are Real: A Poem

Rest in Peace, Chester.

Angels are real.

I have heard their symphonies,

I have mistook their battles for white flags.

Have you seen an angel?

Maybe they were just singing

Poignant lyrics into your ears.

Maybe you were just looking at them

Across unbreakable screens.

Maybe you couldn’t reach out to them,

But they saved your lives, didn’t they?

Angels are real.

You can see them hiding behind dark clouds

When the skies are blue.

You can hear their laughter

While they’re trying to mend you.

They are just as beautiful

As any of your enchanting fantasies.

Some angels wear tattoos on their fragile skins

And sing songs about heartache and agony.

Some angels are too ambrosial

To be a part of this macabre reality.

Some angels tell you what it’s like to live

And some say goodbye so unexpectedly.

So they’ll take to the heavens

For that’s where they belong.

Because angels are real

And they deserve to be freed.

Rest in Peace. And when we’re feeling empty, we’ll keep you in our memories, and leave out all the rest.
